Diemazu (ディーマージュ,Dīmāju?) is one of the Twelve Celestials in SaGa Scarlet Grace. She is the Celestial of sea voyages and a very prominent figure in the war against the Infernals. Her teachings have played a crucial part in the foundation of the world, as these allowed people to safely navigate the ever-dangerous seas of the world to expand their territories. She was responsible for bestowing the knowledge for ship-building, route-determination through the use of stars, construction of lighthouses and harbors, and safe transporting of goods and people.[1]
Her holimont, called the Diemazu's Protector, can only be seen residing in her temple located at Urbs Azhuacan. Curiously, the same creature appears to serve Bartlett, although under a different and more generalistic name which is the "Servant of Voyagers and Vendors"
Her constellation appears to depict a figure resembling a sextant alongside a ship and her elemental affinity is Unda.
Diemazu is depicted as a blonde-haired woman of fair skin. She's seen wearing a blue dress under a white colored cloak and a winged crown. Her divinity symbol appears to be a golden staff with a head resembling a navigator compass.
Personality[]
While Diemazu doesn't appear in-game, her acted counterpart does through the performances of the Traveling Troupe. She's represented as a wise yet sometimes harsh individual who was kind enough to let the Firebringer be part of the Celestials and even allow him to return to the world after being banished for his countless daft plans.
Etymology[]
Diemazu's name originates from the name of the Chinese sea goddess Mazu, who's the deified form of the ancient Fujianese shamaness Lin Mo. Lin Mo's several legends, especially the one about her spiritual power helping in saving her family members from a typhoon, eventually led her to be revered as the protector god of seafarers after her death.
Story[]
Minstrel's Tales[]
Provincia Cerenaif[]
Long ago before the exile of the Firebringer, Shaams' rivalry with Imhokiel made him build a giant labyrinth in Cerenaif which only contained a single exit. He boasted about his creation and invited the other Celestials to traverse the labyrinth alongside him. He also invited the Firebringer, despite knowing his mischievous nature. After some time of exploring, the Firebringer didn't show much interest for Shaams' labyrinth, getting bored and breaking apart wall after wall before escaping using his silver sandals. As the original route was completely lost when the Firebringer destroyed the walls, the Celestials had to be guided by Diemazu and her treasured compass for seven days and seven nights. Eventually the Celestials escaped but Shaams lost his shadow within the broken labyrinth's walls.
Traveling Troupe[]
Diemazu is often depicted as the Celestial discussing with the Firebringer about different affairs related to the Infernals and the newly enlightened humans; while also apparently being the first Celestial that was contacted by the Firebringer, who was in search for a way to bring order to his creation. She eventually comes to expose him for conspirating with his brethren, the Infernals, and orders his banishment.
