The Final Emperor (最終皇帝 (男) Saishū Kōtei (Otoko)?), is a character from Romancing SaGa 2. His female counterpart is the Final Empress. Although he appears to have no name, as this is picked at the start of the game, he is named Gerard II in the manga. He is a descendant of Leon, Gerard and Victor, and the final successor in the long line of emperors of Varennes. He has high magical levels in Light and 2 other types and compared to the Empress, he possesses more physical power and is equipped with the stronger Day Blade which allows the glimmer of the deadly Holy Light.

Appearance[]
His appearance varies in the game/media he appears in. In-game, he is a man with tanned skin, platinum blonde hair, with purple and green armor along with black gloves, black and red boots and a purple cape. In other games/media, he will match or reflect the artwork done by Tomomi Kobayashi if the original RS2 design is not used.
Personality[]
The Final Emperor is a wistful individual, likely due the burden of the past emperors placed into him. Like Gerard, the Final Emperor is a tenacious but compassive man who prefers reason over fight, as seen when he decides to spare Dantarg.
Story[]
The Final Emperor appears as the last emperor of the Empire of Varennes after four of the Seven Heroes have been slain. His coronation takes place a day like no other, and depending on the actions of the player, this fateful day may have the young man witness atrocities beyond his comprehension, or simply meet an old acquaintance who delivers him a message from Kzinssie, reporting of his resurrection at the Sealed Cave. Whatever follows next also depends on the quests that have been left by the player, but overall the Final Emperor's adventure will have him defeat the remaining Seven Heroes and track down the location of their hideout: the Den of Umbrage, in the Snowdrifts.
In the depths of the last dungeon, the Final Emperor will find the last remaining Seven Hero guarding the bodies of his/her brethren due their ancient Blood Pact. After a grueling battle, the remaining Hero retreats to the inner shrine to use a desperate tactic to defeat the Final Emperor, thus ensuing the final battle for the fate of the world. The Final Emperor and his comrades emerge victorious, putting an end to the maddened heroes, and so the Emperor returns to Avalon where he abdicates and turns the Empire of Varennes into a commonwealth. The young man lives the rest of his days reminiscing his adventures in a pub, when one day a Bard visits and sings a ballad of his deeds. A nostalgic Final Emperor remarks how the people have forgotten him and how he only lives in songs, but the Bard denies this saying there are still those that remember him. As the bard leaves and night falls, the young man keeps reminiscing of days past ...when suddenly some familiar faces show up.

Romancing SaGa Re;univerSe[]
The Final Emperor appears as an obtainable character. The regular version of the Final Emperor appears as an obtainable Platinum unit from the regular pool. The White Day-themed version made appearance in an event held during the early years of the game. Another limited Style was added for a Conquest event themed after the termites event of the original game. The Final Emperor also received an S Style for an event commemorating the New Year of 2020. Lastly, the most recent SS Style has been added for an event celebrating the SaGa FES of 2022.
