Romancing SaGa Re;univerSe (ロマンシング サガ リ・ユニバース Romanshingu Saga Riyunibāsu?) , shortened as SaGa RS globally and RomaSaGa RS (ロマサガRS Romasaga RS) in Japan, is a free-to-play role-playing mobile game developed by akatsuki and published by Square Enix in December 6, 2018 for the Android and Apple platforms. The game serves as a sequel to Romancing SaGa 3 set roughly 300 years after the world was regenerated by the joint efforts of Sarah Carson and the Young Boy.
The game has been released worldwide as of June 03, 2020 after a period of closed-beta testing and has been met with a generally positive reception.

Romancing SaGa Re;univerSe is an RPG game with turn-based battles and exploration featuring an array of heroes from varying entries within the SaGa series.
Players can use in-game currency gems which allow them to summon heroes from varying games in the series. These heroes can be used in battles reminiscent of the Romancing SaGa series. The heroes can be equipped with weapons, armors and accessories. They also utilize skills reminiscent of their game of origin. The heroes can be trained in the Dojo using the experience accumulated from battle. Rather than leveling the heroes themselves, their Styles can be improved in the Dojo with the experience. The same hero with a different rarity can access the skills of the varying rarity through sharing their style. Style is what allows similar heroes to share their abilities and experiences. Leveling up Style will allow for stronger heroes.
Heroes can also go on expeditions which allow the player to receive items while also increasing the stats of the selected heroes in the process.

The story begins about 300 years after the resurrection of the world after the defeat of Oblivion. The world appears to haven't slightly changed during the first part of the story other than the Messina Empire growing notably over the other ruling powers. The world drastically changes at the start of the second part over the course of 25 years after the end of the Ancient War as people move towards a more futuristic world where traveling between dimensions is possible just as seen in SaGa Frontier.

Part 1: Polka's Story - The Grave Knights[]
Prologue[]
Drawing close to 300 years after the revival of the world, a new Death Eclipse approaches and the world has been experiencing changes as strange structures have been appearing all over the world. These structures have been simply named as Graves as these enclose memories and the living image of people from other worlds within their rooms. While some Graves are seemingly harmless, some have served as a generating point of hordes of monsters and sealing point of evil-natured entities that seek naught but destruction. Word has spread that by reaching the highest level of these towers would allow the recruital of these warriors, be them of good or ill nature. Zenon Ausbach, current Marquis of Loanne, has been aware of this for quite some time and has decided to intervene by creating the Grave Knights, a task force comprised of select people dedicated to combating the growing menace of the Graves. Meanwhile, the ever growing Messina Empire has sought to claim control over the Graves and its warriors so they could impose their rule over the world by force by manipulating them.
A prophecy spread by an infamous astronomer named Ren Dahao mentions these events will led to the eventual fight for the fate of the world by seven mighty figures led by their leader who goes by the name of "Polka", their greed for power and fall into a world of tyranny and the sudden apparition of the savior "Starmaiden" and her partner, both fated to thwart the evil ambitions of the corrupted heroes.
What shall be the true fate of the world in the end?. And why has the Dark Star suddenly returned to the starry skies?. Only time has the answers to these doubts...
Chapter 1: Polka Lynn Wood the Acrobat[]
One fateful day, the story begins as a sibling pair of known acrobats are assaulted by an evil entity who captures the young man's sister, claiming she was to be her 500th daughter and then suddenly vanishing. Left perplexed the young man, Polka Lynn Wood, vows to find his sister Liz whatever it may take of him. With no direction, the young man wanders through the world in hopes of finding a clue of the whereabouts of his sister. As a matter of fate, Polka reaches the city of Vanguard and finds an ad detailing an admission test for the recently created Grave Knights by Marquis Zenon Ausbach of Loanne. Though reluctantly, the shy young man decides to take the test just so he could gather the necessary strength to deal with his sister's captor.
The day of the test for becoming a Grave Knight comes and Polka finds himself assigned as the leader of a team of otherworld warriors: The mercenary Hector, a man robbed of his youth called Herman, a fierce warrior called Sif, the fighter Terry, Gen the drunk swordsman, a sentry called Cordelia and a girl from 300 years ago called Ellen. Polka's only objective for passing the test is to conquer a Grave by freeing the warrior sealed at the top level. Though initially left confused by the bizarre nature of the Grave, Polka aided by his team makes his way to the top and recruits his first warrior: Herman's original self, the young pirate Black. Successfully having passed the test Polka now has became part of the Grave Knights and is congratulated by Marquis Zenon who gives him the first task of rescuing a man called Shen Du who is being held at Scacinni Manor in Great Arch. Soon after Polka departs, Zenon is greeted by his aide Karman who brings him a misive from Emperor Fegan of Messina detailing a soon-to-happen war against the eastern country of Dae and requesting the aid of the Marquisate of Loanne. While ignoring the Emperor's request Zenon notes how Polka may happen to be the figure of Ren Dahao's prophecy who is said to hold the fate of the world in his hands.

- Polka Lynn Wood (ポルカ・リン・ウッド Poruka Rin Uddo?) - A former acrobat who along with his sister were famous for their aerial swing performances at a circus lead by their ringmaster Barthelemy. He joined the Grave Knights in hopes of getting aid for finding his missing sister.
- Liz Lynn Wood (リズ・リン・ウッド Rizu Rin Uddo?) - Polka's sister and part of the sibling duo known for their trapeze performances. She was suddenly kidnapped by a grim figure who proclaimed she was her 500th daughter.
- Zenon Ausbach (ゼノン・アウスバッハ Zenon Ausubahha?) - The current descendant of the Ausbach bloodline to which Mikhail and Monika belonged to, also the current ruler of the Marquisate of Loanne. He assembled the Grave Knights upon noticing strange events happening around the world.
- Valdor (ヴァルドー Varudō?) - Commissioner of the Grave Knights and owner of the training dojo at Vanguard. Notably, despite being a lobster, his carapace is of a blue-purplish color instead of the usual red.
- Faerie (ようせい Yōsei?) - Also called Brownie (ブラウニー Buraunī). A fairy saved from captivity by Valdor. Since then, she's been Valdor's fellow partner. She's very foul-mouthed and also enjoys teasing and bossing Polka.
- Madeleine (マドレーン Madorēn?) - A female swordsman from the Gessiah Dynasty of the Naj desert. She's said to be the current reincarnation of Khalid and seeks to honor such claim by going on a quest to become stronger and worthy of wielding the regal Khamsin blade.
- Shen Du (シン・ドゥ Shin Du?) - A Daean astronomer from the Eastern Region. He was sent to meet the Grave Knights to warn them of a prophecy foretold by his master Ren Dahao but was captured on the way.
- Evelyn (イーヴリン Īvurin?) - A witch from the Eastern Region who went through a traumatic event that made her develop an obsession with defeating the Archfiend. She was originally felled by Polka but was revived by count Leonid just so Ren Dahao's prophecy would be fulfilled.
- Josephine Lynn Wood (ジョセフィン・リン・ウッド Josefin Rin Uddo?) - Liz's battle maniac daughter born from the unholy union of the Archfiend's essence and Liz's soul when the day of the Death Eclipse happened. She's the current Child of Fate alongside her twin brother Bertrand.
- Bertrand Lynn Wood (バートランド ・リン・ウッド Bātorando Rin Uddo?) - Liz's son born likewise product of the cursed soul of the Archfiend, and Josephine's brother. He was kidnapped when he was a newborn and any memories from him were erased from everyone. He soon became entranced with death and sought to destroy the world.

- Ellen Carson (エレン・カーソン Eren Kāson?) - A settler from Sinon who's helping the Grave Knights. Still doesn't get along well with Julian.
- Sarah Carson (サラ・カーソン Sara Kāson?) - The Child of Fate from 300 years ago who reforged the world but was suddenly forgotten by everyone.
- Mikhail Ausbach (ミカエル・アウスバッハ Mikaeru Ausubahha?) - The old Marquis of Loanne summoned to help Zenon in understanding the true purpose of the Graves. Was quick to notice the current situation of the world.
- Monica Ausbach (モニカ・アウスバッハ Monika Ausubahha?) - Mikhail's younger sister summoned alongside him. She's been seen actively aiding in the festivities and events held in Vanguard.
- Katarina Lauran (カタリナ・ラウラン Katarina Rauran?) - Monica's personal bodyguard. Doesn't appear to be aware of her outcome upon the reforging of the world.
- Khalid (ハリード Harīdo?) - The royal nomad prince of the originally destroyed Gessiah Dynasty 300 years ago. Upon being summoned helps Madeleine in her quest for becoing worthy of the Khamsin.
- Young Boy (少年 Shōnen?) - The unnamed Child of Fate from 300 years ago. Has been left even more forgotten than before, to which Bertrand tried taking advantage of.
- Volcano (ボルカノ Borukano?) - The old leader of the Volcano Sect of Mahzos. Along with Undine he's been placed as protector and tutor of Josephine.
- Undine (ウンディーネ Undīne?) - The old leader of the Undine Sect of Mahzos. Helps Volcano to protect Josephine, though both still don't get along very well.
- The Professor (教授 Kyōju?) - A researcher that used to work for the Duke of Zweig but now works for the Grave Knights and has ever since moved to Vanguard where she helps with summoning related affairs.
- Ren Dahao (ジンダーハオ Jindāhao?) - An astronomer from the Eastern Region whose recent predictions speak of an upcoming catastrophe and of the rise of eight heroes. Appears to be researching a forbidden topic going from place to place.
- Matriarch (聖王 Seiō?) - The legendary figure who banished the Sinistrals and saved the world 600 years ago. Was brought back by a Grave and since then helped the Grave Knights in their fight against the rise of the Messina Empire.
- Ferdinand (フェルディナント Ferudinanto?) - One of the Twelve Generals of the Matriarch and the one who established the Marquisate of Loanne. Came back to life as a summon to aid the Grave Knights.
- Paulus (パウルス Paurusu?) - Originally a lieutenant in the Alloces demon army, he later found a new purpose and joined the Matriarch in her crusade thus becoming one of her Twelve Generals. Was summoned to help the Matriarch and the Grave Knights in their fight.
- Vassault (ヴァッサール Vassāru?) - Founder of the Genbu arts school and one of the mighty Twelve Generals of the Matriarch. Was summoned to aid the Matriarch and the Grave Knights in strategy-related affairs.

- Evelyn as the Wicked Witch of the East ( 東の悪しき魔女 Higashi no Ashiki Majo?) - A feared witch from the Eastern Region who's been seen capturing maidens all over the world and turning them into her "daughters". She's the one who captured Liz as she sensed something strong within her.
- Karman (カルマン Karuman?) - A mysterious man obsessed with acquiring knowledge. He used to be Zenon's aide but later on betrayed him and captured Vanguard.
- Barthelemy Lynn Wood (バルテルミー・リン・ウッド Baruterumī Rin Uddo?) - Ringmaster of the circus where Polka and Liz performed their arts. He also works as an assassin part-time
- Tu Kwai (トゥ・クアイ Tu Kuai?) - Ruler of the country of Dae. Her current objective is to find and capture the missing Ren Dahao for supposedly spreading dangerous false claims.
- Ludwig (ルードヴィッヒ Rūdovihhi?) - The true emperor of Messina having been revived somehow. Like 300 years ago he seeks to dominate the world.
- Maximus (マクシムス Makushimusu?) - Revived once again Maximus seeks to conquer the world at the side of Messina's emperor Ludwig.
- The Four Sinistrals (四魔貴族 Yon Ma Kizoku?) - The rulers of the Abyss somehow brought back to life again. As usual, they plan on taking over the world.
- Bertrand Lynn Wood (バートランド・リン・ウッド Bātorando Rin Uddo?) - Liz's son who upon being forgotten by the world turned into a raging and despaired individual. He harnessed power from the Abyss to try to achieve his goal of destroying the world.
- Igomahl (イゴマール Igomāru?) - A notable demon from the Abyss and also the guardian of the fifth Abyss Gate in the Eastern Region thus allegedly making her the "fifth Sinistral". Her goal is to find a suitable vessel for the Archfiend's soul and possess them to acquire unlimited power.
- The Archfiend (魔王 Maō?) - Once thought to have been banished, the Archfiend partially returns as a result of a forbidden ritual performed by Karman.

- Emperor Fegan (e e?) - A man posing as the ruler of the Messina Empire.
- Don Scaccini (e e?) - An arms dealer and mob boss. He enjoys collecting rare and endangered wild species.
- Melissa (メリッサ Merissa?) - Barthelemy's wife and mother of Polka and Liz. Met a tragic end after being persecuted by the Volcano Sect.
- The Fake Archfiend (偽る魔王 Itsuwaru Maō?) - A young man posing as the Archfiend that sought to dominate the world shortly after the true Archfiend vanished. He made a pact with Oriax to obtain Abyssal power and soon began to sow chaos over the world. Was eventually put a stop by Dragonlord Bune and banished for all eternity to the Abyss.

- Liam (リアム Riamu?) - A young boy attending Vanguard's university. While on an errand he met Candy and visited the headquarters of Gravis where he heard they were investigating an anomaly regarding sudden coma cases across the world. As he got interested in helping them he decided to apply to become a Gravis Pilot in hopes of aiding and finding a solution for the coma anomaly.
- Anya (アーニャ Ānya?) - A young girl found astray in the world of SaGa Frontier by Liam when he was on a mission. She appears to be looking for something but refuses disclose about it. Oddly, she has an elemental light affinity.
- Darius (ダリアス Dariasu?) - The leader of Gravis, a sort of agency that deals with security matters, and the one investigating the sudden coma cases. As oddly as Anya, he has a shadow elemental affinity and bears a great resemblancy to the banished Fake Archfiend.
- Candy (キャンディ Kyandi?) - A member of Gravis who appears to be of the same species as Cotton.
- Liao Yu (リャオ・ユウ Ryao Yū?) - A member of Gravis who appears to be an astronomer and creator of the Battle Simulator. He has taken interest in delving deeper about the Dark Star and its function.

Just after they were ready to depart and close the Door connecting Mardias and a place outside Vanguard, Evelis sent them to an outer space dimension where he descended from an egg-like stone and attacked with highly dangerous water magic. Eventually he was "defeated" and turned into an unknown glowing stone.

It appears the global release has been made possible thanks to the series producer Masanori Ichikawa and his proposal of broading the audience of the series beyond its original region starting originally with the localization of the remaster of Romancing SaGa 2.

Reception[]
The game has been received favourably in all regions and has received a few notable accolades. Part of its success seems to be the laid-back nature of the game as unlike other mobile games grinding is rarely required to complete most of the offered content save for exceptions such as the Romancing difficulty levels which are contents geared towards the more "competitive" audience of the game. The game is also usually seen ranking highly in the Top Grossing category (at least in the Japanese region).
Trivia[]
- There are a few notable things of the game that appear to indicate the game had a different approach while on its earlier development phases.
- Some aspects of the game bear resemblancy to aspects of SaGa Scarlet Grace such as the weapon upgrading system, the expeditions, the BP battle system.
- Moreover many of the basic weapons have been taken straight from the game such as the Maul, the Ettin's Blade, the Ghostsilver weapons, the Astral Blade, etc.
- The transitions between the start and end of a combat are very close to those seen in SaGa Scarlet Grace.
- The map icon used for Pandemoniums/Gauntlets or some bosses bears a heavy resemblance to the icon used by the Scarlet Fiends albeit looking slightly more cartoonier.
