The Firebringer (ファイアブリンガー Faiaburingaa), also usually known as the "Wicked One" (邪神 Jashin), is a major character in SaGa Scarlet Grace. According to the people mythos he's a banished Celestial due to certain reasons, yet there is much more to know and say about this fallen god...
Profile[]
Appearance[]
An odd-looking pale spiky-haired humanoid of tall frame; the Firebringer looks very different than the other deities of his world. The armor the Firebringer is wearing appears to be rather extensions of his own body, as these glow when he infuses himself with power. On his back lies an arc-shaped red mark and during battle he wields a pair of swords called "Levateinn."
Personality[]
The Firebringer is a rather curious individual whose personality isn't defined at all, as it varies depending on the account. While in the game he's seen as a wise, if not cunning, selfish and remorseless, individual through his avatar and some of the depictions by the Traveling Troupe; he's also depicted as a rather foolish, coward and daft individual in several tales by the Minstrel and the Traveling Troupe. Whatever may the Firebringer's true personality be, his goal is clear, that one being creating an ideal world for the humans, whether it be for a selfish end or because he genuinely cares about them.
Tales[]
Common Myth[]
According to the common myth, the Firebringer is a member of the Infernals who became a servant of the Celestials after giving them valuable information for their war. The Firebringer would later serve as an overseer for the Celestials, reporting them of the behaviour of the humans. Apparently a deranged god that only wanted chaos, the Firebringer betrayed his kind to put them into a seemingly endless war with the Celestials. The Celestials would notice this later and choose to banish him for a set period of time. However the Firebringer managed to trick the Celestials one last time and altered the period of banishment, turning it into the infamous "seven times per 1000 years." And so, the Firebringer kept coming back transformed into a meteor while he projected himself in the world through an avatar, apparently enraged due the banishment and seeking the destruction of the world created by the Celestials. Eventually, the Firebringer would cease to be during the Seventh Calamity, and be finally shattered by Marigan.
Truth[]
The truth depicted by the Traveling Troupe appears to indicate the Firebringer and his brethren, the other Original Gods: Savnok, Aranea, Balor, and Chiyou, were the first gods that were born when the world was given birth. Following the creation of the world, the humans would later be born, who would become an interest of the original god. Pitying them for lacking knowledge and power, the Firebringer gave them the fire to spark the flame of curiosity and ambition, while some time later he asked his brethren for help in his endeavor. Seeing how the negative influence of the other gods resulted in turning the humans into even crueler creatures, the Firebringer would choose to ask for help of gods from another universe. This is where the Celestials come to the world, with the task of enlightening the humans. The condition was forfeiting the world he and his brethren had created; the Firebringer accepted, caring only of seeing an ideal world for humans be made. A war would emerge of the remaining Infernals against the Celestials and the enlightened humans. Guided by an emperor, the humans would banish the Infernals to the depths of the world, and with this the world would be claimed by the Celestials. However, this was not what the Firebringer wished, as the humans couldn't still stand on their own, so he complained to the Celestials. Seeing he had no right to complain, as the task was quite fulfilled, the Celestials ordered the old god to leave. Left alone, the Firebringer resolves to force humanity reach true independency by becoming a constant threat, who upon defeat, would leave his "hopes" be entrusted to the one who would defeat him.
Story[]
Residing in Ei-Hanum, the Firebringer is always fought at the end of the story. Acting as the final obstacle for clearing the final scenario, the Firebringer makes appearance under different pretenses depending on the scenario.
Earth Serpent[]
Following the conspiracy by Marigan and Savnok, the Firebringer appears by orders of Marigan, who orders him to fight to death the ones that were opposing him. Marigan's plan was to absorb the energy of the Firebringer to attain even greater strength, but when he's defeated, the Firebringer absorbs him to obtain a second chance at defeating the player's retinue.
Scarlet Shards[]
The Firebringer appears at the end of the scenario after apparently having been revived by the power of the stones.
Sigfrei[]
It is revealed that Sigfrei was the avatar of the Firebringer, and with the power of the Scarlet Shard entrusted to the protagonist, he revives and puts the protagonist into trial. Wanting to drive to total collapse the world of the Celestials, the Firebringer projected as Sigfrei in order to bring forth chaos over all regions. His goal was pave the way for a new world under the guidance of the one that would accept the Scarlet Grace.
Phoenix[]
The Firebringer apparently revives after having absorbed the energy of the Phoenix's egg.
Ending[]
After the Firebringer is defeated, the Scarlet Grace is presented to the protagonist. Depending on the choices of the story, either the protagonist will accept it, or choose to send it away or sometimes destroy it.
Gameplay[]
Battle[]
The Firebringer possesses a total of three forms with varying moveset depending on the scenarios played during the story. The strength of each form also varies depending on the scenarios played during the story, or in Leonard's case, depending on the gathered Scarlet Shards and a final set of choices. Each form possesses a total of four variations, with the fourth being the strongest.

First Form[]

In his first form, the Firebringer has two health bars, very high speed and a moveset consisting of copies of the benisons of the Celestials. If the Firebringer is defeated before he acts then his action will be canceled.
Moveset[]
- Shade of Kada: Recovers moderate HP. Variations 1 and 3 use this, but very rarely.
- Shade of Astel: Recovers large HP. Variations 1 and 2 use this, but very rarely.
- Shade of Uzume: Grants himself +2 BP. Variations 1 and 2 use this.
- Shade of Shaams: High-chance stun and low-damage thunder AoE damage. Variations 1, 3 and 4 use this. The most common attack.
- Shade of Diemazu: Heavy AoE cold damage with high chance of confusion. Variations 2, 3 and 4 use this.
- Shade of Marigan: Heavy AoE pierce damage. Variations 2 and 4 use this.
Strategy[]
The first form is rather fragile but fairly quick unlike the latter forms. No matter the variation, bringing two protectors is recommended to shield against Shade of Shaams, and to open a way of dealing damage. The easiest way of dispatching this form involves using multihit techniques such as Unbridled Frenzy or Dual Whirlwind. The recommended armors are balanced ones such as the Grand Astral, or the Grand Battlemage, together with complementary armor of mixed defenses such as the Masters Gi or the Beetle Shawl.
Second Form[]

After being defeated, the Firebringer empowers himself with fire and begins glowing several shades of blue and white. His moveset now consists of sword techniques and a tricky supportive technique. With two health bars, but less speed, this form is focused on destroying the player's retinue through manipulation of the Timeline.
Moveset[]
- Light Servant: Summons three white clones that protect the Firebringer or can mimic the last performed action by the player. Variation 3 uses this.
- Shadow Servant: Summons three black clones that protect the Firebringer or mimic the last action performed by him. Variation 4 uses this.
- Fire Servant: Summons a mix of Shadow and Light Servants. Variations 1 and 2 use this.
- Sonic Blade: Ranged moderate pierce damage. Variation 1 uses this.
- Dual Whirlwind: Multihiitting slash technique of five hits. Moderate damage. Variations 3 and 4 use this.
- Thousand Blades: AoE pierce interrupt with low stun chance. Slash moderate damage. Variations 1, 2 and 3 use this.
- Dual Torrent: Slash interrupt. Heavy slash damage. Variations 1 and 2 use this.
- Apathy: Slash counter technique. Variations 1 and 3 use this.
- Halting Blade: Heavy slash base damage. The Firebringer enters a Guard Up stance and increases the damage of the technique the more damage he receives before acting. Variations 3 and 4 use this.
- Deathbringer: Inflicts heavy pierce damage with a chance of LP-break. Variations 2, 3 and 4 use this.
- Suction: Absorbs a Servant to recover large HP and get a moderate defense buff. Variations 2, 3 and 4 use this.
Strategy[]
Despite the strengths of the Servants that appear beginning the second round, this form can be trivialized by bringing a good caster of Snowstorm. Starting the first round with Snowstorm will ensure that most Servants will go down once it's activated. After some rounds have passed, the Firebringer will opt for only using "???" techniques, which can be any of his interrupts or a counter. No matter the variation, this can be easily circumvented by using the multihitting axe technique Unbridled Frenzy.
Third Form[]

After being defeated again, the Firebringer encloses himself in a stony bubble: the same one of the mythos, and drops down his Levateinn blades in favor of stronger magic. The Levateinn blades act as additional enemies that will actively try to protect their wielder through protective techniques or through highly damaging single-target attacks. With three health bars and techniques of varying effects, this form aims to destroy the player through the use of annoying effects such as BP reduction.
Moveset[]
- Crimson Flare: Heavy 3-turn chant heat damage. Variations 1 and 2 use this.
- Psychokinesis: Small heat damage with delaying effect. Variations 1, 2 and 3 use this.
- Meteorbringer: Moderate blunt and heat damage with moderate chance of Confusion. Variations 1, 2 and 3 use this.
- Fire Blaster: Heavy pierce and heat damage with high chance of Frenzy. Variations 2, 3 and 4 use this.
- Headbutt: Blunt interrupt of moderate blunt AoE damage with moderate chance of Stun. Variations 1 and 2 use this.
- Falling Zodiac: Small blunt AoE damage. Reduces BP by 2. Variations 1 and 2 use this.
- Galactic Rift: Moderate blunt AoE damage. Reduces BP by 3. Variations 2, 3 and 4 use this.
- Vermillion Sands: Heavy heat AoE damage. Variations 2, 3 and 4 use this.
Moveset (Levateinn)[]
- Rampart: Protective technique.
- Self-Immolation: Counter technique of heat damage.
- Prominence: Moderate slash and heat damage.
Strategy[]
Depending on the variation either the Firebringer will start with Crimson Flare (weakest), or begin by using Fire Blaster. Assuming the variation is any but the weakest one, equipping all the retinue with mixed defense armor such as the Grand Astral alongside Insulated Gloves is obligatory to withstand the main threat of this form: Vermillion Sands. After some rounds, the Firebringer will focus on annihilating the retinue through constant use of Vermillion Sands or Galactic Rift. Fortunately the Levateinn blades come in handy to deal with the onslaught, as these are rather fragile and can be taken down easily with few ranged attacks. Bringing an archer is obligatory to quell any possible "???" techniques and to nullify the Rampart technique of the Levateinns. As always a multihitter will make this fight more bearable. Lastly, if the protagonist has their entrusted Scarlet Grace (save for Leonard), they will be able to revive once if they do fall in battle.
Firebringer Prime[]

The Firebringer Prime (真ファイアブリンガー Shin Faiaburingaa) is the strongest possible version of the third form, added in SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions, accessible only through the use of the 20 Celesta Quintstones before entering the lake of light of Ei-Hanum. Possessing much more HP and attack power, the Firebringer Prime is the final optional challenge of the game. Unlike the original third version, rematching is not possible, with a defeat directly resulting in a game-over screen. However, reviving with the entrusted Scarlet Grace is still possible for anyone but Leonard.
Overview[]
Unlike the original third form, most attacks have been discarded, with only some AoE (Vermillion Sands, Galactic Rift), single target (Fire Blaster, Meteorbringer) remaining. All attacks save for Galactic Rift give him a very high priority in the Timeline. The Levateinn blades have been strengthened as well, gaining the suffix of Prime, retaining all techniques, and receiving a large boost to their HP and gaining a large speed increase. Unlike the original third form, the Firebringer starts directly with 8 BP, which will usually lead to the Wicked One to start the battle by using Vermillion Sands or the dreaded Galactic Rift. Unlike the original battle, this one is rather a time trial, as the Firebringer will constantly attack with Vermillion Sands or even worse. Galactic Rift. The damage of the reinforced Vermillion Sands or Galactic Rift will result in a very fast defeat, if no proper strategy is applied; even then, with a stable strategy, there's no certainty that victory wlll be attained, as the Firebringer can easily stop using Vermillion Sands and begin overusing Galactic Rift.
General Strategy[]
First of all, learning three specific roles is obligatory for those going to battle, as the damage of the most common attack: Vermillion Sands, is too high to even withstand more than three rounds:
- Maestro of Flame: Incendiary Arrow Rank 1 and Rising Nova Rank 1
- Mentalist: Dimensional Break and Shadow Weave
- Warder: Deflect and Windmill
With these roles the damage of Vermillion Sands is reduced to about a 15% of the original damage, which ranges from 500 to 600. Additionally equipping Sunlight Robes with Insulator Gloves can furthermore reduce the oncoming damage. Using Erakleos Guard can reduce more the damage and make the battle more bearable.
There are various ways of defeating the Firebringer Prime, but the most stable one involves using Erakleos Guard and the typical double Hypergravity R3 plus a bow attacker. For this method, withstanding until the double Hypergravity activates will ensure the Firebringer will get locked to only using his weakest attack: Meteorbringer. Be advised that Meteorbringer has a Confusion effect which can be circumvented by equipping Strange Bones that can be farmed from the Final Boss Cave in Bicyniro. Additionally, the damage can be reduced even more by bringing Roh Sung or Victoria as one of the participant mages, depending on the played route.
Overall if the used method does not involve the use of Hypergravity, the battle becomes a time trial that depends a lot on the RNG and the damage potential. A more risky method may involve the use of multihitting techniques such as Dual Whirlwind or Millionaire, combined with Snowstorm, however the downside of this is the requirement of learning the respective damage-type boosting roles and roles to increase the initial BP such as Commander.
