Shaams (シャムス,Shamusu?) is one of Twelve Celestials in SaGa Scarlet Grace. He is the Celestial presiding over legislature and law and the one who brought order to humanity through the creation of laws. He taught humans how to maintain the order of society through laws and regulations, gaining major recognition originally within Marchiam Numadica along with his fellow rival Imhokiel. Out of all living creatures, humans are the only ones to possess laws, a thing that apparently doesn't seem to exist amongst gods. The central belief of those who follow Shaams is that humans are made true individuals only through the power of law.[1]
Shaams is one of the few Celestials to be shown to have more than two holimonts, those namely being his "Vanguard" and his unnamed one, both being giant spider-like monsters that serve one of his main centers of cult named "The Order of Scales" located in Provincia Maurehua.
Shaams' constellation depicts a figure resembling a series of stone tablets and a scale and his elemental affinity is Natura.
Shaams is depicted as a blonde-haired young man of pale skin. He's clad in white robes and blue pants and also wearing several pieces of armor with a winged motif. Notably, Shaams appears to bear a sort of brand on his forehead; something that perhaps could be linked to the divine nature of the Celestials as seen in otherindividuals. Shaams' divinity symbol is shaped differently than the other ones, being a red codex in his case.
Personality[]
Shaams' personality is mostly left unknown as he doesn't appear in-game. Few aspects can be ascerted through some of the tales spoken by the Minstrel. Shaams appears to have been a highly-competitive individual who disliked the idea of being proved wrong, going as far to assert superiority by going against his own skills.
Etymology[]
Shaams' name and role take inspiration from the ancient Mesopotamian god called Shamash, said to have been the the overseer god of justice.
Story[]
Minstrel's Tales[]
Provincia Maurehua[]
Long ago before the exile of the Firebringer, Imhokiel and Shaams had an argument regarding as to which one mas more important: Law or Architecture? Shaams was certain that his laws were the most important teachings bestowed to humanity; commenting that men wouldn't be living in peace without any regulations, no matter how well suited was their place of living. Imhokiel disagreed, saying that men would be considered beasts lest they possessed the knowledge of construction to live a properly organized life. Neither side accepted defeat, and it is said that their rivalry has continued even to this very day.
Provincia Cerenaif[]
Some time before the exile of the Firebringer, the rivalry Shaams had with Imhokiel led him to try to show superiority by trying to construct something worthy of praise. The result was a massive labyrinth with only a singular exit, very much reflecting Shaams' spirit. Shaams invited the other Celestials and even the Firebringer despite his long history of erratic mischiefs. As the group traversed the labyrinth, the Firebringer was shown simply bored and uninterested, choosing to leave the labyrinth by flying but not before breaking apart several walls just because he wished so. With the original exit route lost, Diemazu had to guide the group with her compass, and after some time the Celestials had made their escape. Looking from afar, Shaams noticed he had lost his shadow within the labyrinth. "Gone and Gone. My shadow is gone!", was all he said. Shaams simply mourned for the loss of his masterpiece. As for what happened to the shade of Shaams, some said that it escaped the labyrinth eventually, while others say that it never did and instead became the king of the labyrinth.
